Aila SDK 2.2 Release Notes

We’re excited to announce Aila SDK version 2.2.0. This new version brings a host of new features, bug fixes, and a firmware update for the 12.9″ Interactive Kiosk (Gen 4/5/6), and introduces formal support for Aila’s new Interactive Kiosk for iPad 10.9 (Gen 10). Version 2.2.0 has also qualified for iOS/iPadOS 16.6 and 17.

iOS/iPadOS 17 Qualified Build

Apple released iOS and iPadOS 17 on September 18, 2023. We are pleased to announce that Aila SDK version 2.2 has successfully undergone thorough qualification, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance on devices running iOS and iPadOS 17.0.1.

Introducing MRZ scanning for Passports

Stepping beyond the realm of barcoding and imaging, Aila SDK 2.2 introduces a brand new feature—MRZ scanning for passports and other identification documents! While barcodes have been fine-tuned for machine readability, the machine-readable zone (MRZ) on an identity document relies on optical character recognition (OCR) for decoding. Aila has consistently been at the forefront of scanning, excelling in reading even the most challenging barcodes, and we are now extending that capability to passports.

Presently, passport scanning is optimized for our SoftScan product and is not yet available for kiosks. Experience it firsthand by using our Aila Scanner app, now available on the App Store. Try it today!

Introducing Support for Interactive Kiosk for iPad 10.9 (Gen 10)

We have officially launched the Interactive Kiosk to support Apple’s latest entry-level iPad, the iPad 10.9 (Gen 10). This iPad upgrade replaced the lightning port, introducing USB-C to this lower-cost device, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro lineup. Consequently, the Interactive Kiosk for the 10.9” iPad now includes the same USB-C hub built into our kiosk for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This enhancement enables superior peripheral connectivity, compliance compatibility, and IT flexibility.

Firmware Update for 12.9-inch Interactive Kiosk (Gen 4/5/6)

We have incorporated an automatic firmware upgrade, version 114, for the Interactive Kiosk for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (Gen 4/5/6). This update enhances power regulation for high-reliability when running USB-C data and power through a single USB cable from external USB hubs to the kiosk. This update also restores the function that turns the kiosk lighting on for 10s after a power cycle. 

This is an unattended update that will occur within five minutes of launching an app with Aila SDK 2.2 embedded and will take less than 60 seconds.

Additional Symbology Support

We have extended our support for EAN barcodes by including two-digit or five-digit supplemental codes. These add-ons provide extra information or functionality to the primary barcode and are often used in specific industries or applications.

Debugging Diaries: Vanquishing Memory Leaks for a Stable Tomorrow!

We have addressed a memory leak that had the potential to cause instability in the application over extended periods. This bug has been identified, reproduced, and successfully corrected. We highly recommend users upgrade to the latest version to benefit from this fix.
