Aila SDK 2.4 Release Notes

We are thrilled to announce the release of Aila SDK v2.4. This release has been fully qualified for Apple’s iOS and iPadOS 18, introduces support for SoftScan and Interactive Kiosk on Apple’s latest iPad Air (M2) and Pro (M4) 13” form factors, and includes several bug fixes and improvements.

Qualified for iOS/iPadOS 18

We’re excited to announce that Aila SDK v2.4 is fully qualified for iOS/iPadOS18. This SDK is also qualified for iOS/iPadOS versions 15.6 through 17. Please note, Aila will deprecate support for iOS/iPadOS 15 in builds produced after January 1, 2025. To ensure the best possible experience and security, we strongly encourage all customers to keep their Apple devices updated to the latest major iOS/iPadOS version.

iPad Air 13” (M2) and iPad Pro 13” (M4) Receive SoftScan Support

The iPad Air 13″ is a wonderful addition to Apple’s iPad lineup, adding a large 13″ screen for interacting with and displaying more content at a lower price point than the iPad Pro. Additionally, the iPad Pro M4 13″ is the perfect iPad for those who need to unlock the power of AI and biometrics within their workflow. The M4 processor, Face ID, and LiDAR set this iPad apart from others in Apple’s lineup.

We’ve added SoftScan support for both of these latest generation iPad models so you can deliver best-in-class barcode or MRZ (passport) scanning within your application.

Improvements and Bug Fixes

App Store Compatible Framework

We have updated the privacy manifest within the Aila SDK framework. This will allow an app to pass Apple’s review for posting to the App Store or as a Custom app.

Firmware Update for the Interactive Kiosk 10.9” (Gen10) & Interactive Kiosk 12.9” (Gen4/5/6)

Embedded within this SDK is an automatic firmware update 106 for both the Interactive Kiosk 10.9” (Gen10) and the Interactive Kiosk 12.9″ (Gen 4/5/6). The firmware provides higher voltage contracts to provide more power to the iPad under heavy usage scenarios. While the firmware may also update the 12.9″ kiosks, this specific power enhancement is not applicable.

Interactive Kiosk support for the iPad Air 13” (M2), Passport MRZ Scanning

Aila SDK 2.4 introduces support for our new Interactive Kiosk designed for the iPad Air 13″ (M2). With its larger, vibrant screen and impressive performance, the iPad Air 13″ is a fantastic addition to Apple’s lineup. It’s a great option for those seeking an enhanced customer experience for workflows that don’t require the full processing power or biometrics of the iPad Pro.

MRZ scanning for passports is now available on Interactive Kiosk, joining our SoftScan product to perform real-time OCR on passports and international IDs. This experience is extremely user-friendly, allowing travelers to scan their government-issued documents as easily as a barcode, without the need for clunky and expensive scanning beds.

Stability

This build introduces stability improvements and resolves issues in AilaDecoder. The first is a bug related to threading when calling Aila_ResetScan() in a multiscan environment. We’ve also resolved bugs that resulted in a dictionary crash when multiple APIs were called.
