We recently spoke with Greg Schmitzer, president of Mad Mobile, about the future of POS technology.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your company.

I’m the president and co-founder of Mad Mobile. Mad Mobile is Apple’s go-to-market partner for Mobile POS and the new MPOS leader for major retailers. Our Concierge solution will soon be live in more than 5,000 stores worldwide. Top customers include Brooks Brothers, Ulta Beauty, Urban Outfitters, Vans, Burlington, and Talbots. Our unique technology and platform enable major retailers with any POS system to launch MPOS or self checkout in just weeks.

Who are your typical customers? What problems do you solve for them?

Tier 1 and Tier 2 retailers in the US and Europe. Retailers running these POS systems are ideal prospects: Oracle Xstore, Oracle ORPOS, Aptos, JDA, legacy .Net or Java POS.

We enable retailers with legacy POS systems to quickly launch MPOS, BOPIS, self checkout and other modern journeys for store associates and customers. Our unique technology modernizes legacy POS systems with a microservice service layer to support many mobile devices transacting in parallel. In addition, the POS adapter ports over all of a retailer’s POS customizations, saving them significant time and money. We launch MPOS and self checkout for major retail customers in just 12 weeks. Once in place, the Concierge POS solution enables retailers to augment or replace registers with mobile devices, support pop-up stores, and move to a true cloud POS solution that is much easier to operate and much less expensive to maintain.


Current customers include Brooks Brothers, Ulta Beauty, Burlington, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Talbots, Free People, Century 21 department stores, VF Corp. Europe, Vans, Timberland, The North Face, Stein Mart, Books-A-Million.

What are some of the main challenges in this space?

Most point of sale systems are based on very old technology. These monolithic on-premise systems were never designed for mobile or omnichannel. The POS is not connected to ECOM or other cloud-based systems needed to provide store associates with access to a key product or omnichannel customer data such as online purchase history. In addition, the hardware these POS systems run on is very outdated and costly to maintain, requiring hands-on updates and on-site repairs. Retailers looking to move to modern iOS mobile devices for MPOS or self checkout quickly realize there will be significant time and cost to make these old POS systems work on iOS and with other cloud systems such as ECOM. Mad Mobile’s Concierge platform and application solves this problem.

How has your vision (and/or products) evolved over time?

We’ve become closer and closer to Apple. Our solution has become the preeminent technology for making any POS run on iOS. We’ve also added modules for assisted selling, clienteling, and fulfillment to make Concierge the leading solution for retail store associates.

What do you have planned for the future? Where do you see untapped opportunities in the market?

We see tremendous growth in MPOS and self checkout for retail and hospitality. We are innovating every day to make that experience easier and better for retailers and shoppers.
